FAME continues to successfully create quality employment opportunities by providing technical and financial assistance for the expansion of our small business communities.  The community return has been the successful creation of employment and social opportunities for individuals and families at risk of poverty in low-moderate income (LMI) areas.

For over 17 years, FAME Assistance Corporation has been an economic force and source of empowerment for small, minority and women-owned businesses in Los Angeles County.  FAME lending operations began with $1 million in grant funds from generous donors, the Walt Disney Company and the ARCO Foundation.  The funding was a direct result of the 1992 civil unrest which brought mass media attention to a marginalized and oppressed south Los Angeles.

The goal of our lending programs is to enhance relationships between banks and their clients, to decrease business closures and to prevent job loss.

Our programs currently source small business loan referrals through partner financial institutions and economic development organizations. Most of our loan recipients have been denied a renewal of credit, an initial loan request, and/or an increase in current loan amount(s).  Moreover, current market conditions have caused banks to adjust lending standards and constrict their approval parameters.  This has had a direct affect on small businesses, now unable to secure the capital they would otherwise have obtained.  FAME's lending programs, in partnership with economic development organizations and financial institutions play a vital role in keeping small businesses thriving.
